Promyco Diagnostics has recognized the unmet need for sensitive and accurate serological diagnostic kitsfor the detection of genital mycoplasma infections.
Genital mycoplasma is a hard-to-diagnose bacteria implicated in a variety of diseases and pathological states in humans including nongonococcal urethritis,and prostatitis in men and in women, cervicitis, pregnancy complications , especially preterm-premature delivery (chorioamnionitis, recurrent abortions, stillbirth, ), morbidity of the premature neonate ( respiratory distress syndrome, chronic lung disease (BPD), bronchopulmonary dysplasia and meningitis) as well as mortality They can cause male infertility, reactive arthritis, and possibly the exacerbation of rheumatoid arthritis. In order to establish a causal relationship between mycoplasma infection, and the disease the patients has been experiencing, , it is critical to demonstrate, not only mycoplasma presence, but also whether antibody response to the a suspected mycoplasma, occur in patients with the disease.
Promyco Diagnostics' research laboratories are located at Soroka University Medical Center, Beer Sheba, Israel. The development of our novel commercial kit is based on the extensive knowledge and expertise accumulated at the NationalCenter for Mycoplasma Laboratory, in the same institution, which specializes and centralizes the clinical testing of mycoplasma infections from samples throughout Israel. This Center was founded and lead for over 20 years by Promyco Diagnostics' scientific leader, Professor Shulamith Horowitz. Promyco Diagnostics' novel serological kit is already in use at this laboratory; many hundreds of samples have proved the concept behind our technology, which will be shortly translated into a simple and accurate commercial kit.
The company was founded by Mor Research Applications, the technology transfer company of Israel's biggest Health Care Services, Kupat Holim Clalit, and Van Leer Ventures, one of the leading early stage investment centers.
